ERS is proud to announce the Teacher Compensation Workshop, a do-it-yourself workshop to jumpstart the process of restructuring teacher compensation and career paths. With the help of TeachPlus and their Boston teaching policy fellows, we successfully launched the pilot earlier this week and were pleased to see how helpful it was to the group.
The teachers, led by a facilitator from the TeachPlus staff, completed the full teacher compensation workshop. Some reactions from the participants included:
School districts have the responsibility to design a compensation structure that maximizes their ability to meet teacher recruitment and retention goals within the context of long-term fiscal sustainability. ERS has created this Teacher Compensation Workshop to help leaders bring together practitioners and policymakers in a district to explore the costs and implications of different compensation structures.
The convening provides multiple modes of learning for the participant. It includes direct instruction, opportunities for small and large group discussion, individual study and reflection, and an interactive, hands-on game.
The convening is designed for a group of 4-36 people that can divide into 2-6 teams, each comprised of between 2-6 individuals. These teams can be made up of a variety of stakeholders in school district policy including, but not limited to: district leadership, union leaders, teachers, central office staff, school administrators, and parents.
ERS would like to thank TeachPlus for running the pilot workshop, Lindsay Sobel for facilitating and coordinating the workshop, and the Boston TeachPlus teaching policy fellows for their participation and enthusiastic discussion.
